This week’s episode is: Anne Rescues Minnie May.
Anne works hard all fall and gets passed to the fifth class, which isn’t as much of a victory as she would like since Gilbert Blythe was passed at the same time.
Winter has come. The Premir is coming to Charlettown, and Marilla is going with the Lyndes to go hear him speak, leaving Anne to get Matthew his dinner. Anne spends the evening studying and talking with Matthew, when Diana rushes over. She says that Minnie May has the croup, the Berrys are at the meeting as well, Mary Jo doesn’t know what to do, and the doctor is probably at the meeting as well. Matthew goes off to find a doctor. Anne goes with Diana to help Minnie May. She knows what to do after looking after three sets of twins! She gets Mary Jo to boil water, and she keeps giving Minnie May medicine. At the last dose, the medicine finally takes affect. It is three in the morning by the time Matthew comes with a doctor, having had to go to another town to find one. With Minnie May out of danger and a doctor there to do the rest, Matthew takes her home to sleep. When the Berrys get home, the doctor tells Mrs. Berry that Anne saved Minnie May’s life. He would have arrived too late do do anything.
When Anne wakes up, Marilla feeds her and tells her the glad news that Mrs. Berry has forgiven her and she and Diana can be friends again. Anne rushes over to Diana’s place, and they have a wonderful afternoon, including a fancy tea put on by Mrs. Berry. As Anne tells Marilla when she comes back home, she has never been happier.
