First, one note. Yes, I am watching this in the original Japanese with English subs, though I’ve seen the dub before and they did an excellent job. The episode titles are from the English version. My understanding is that the Japanese version has no episode names.
Today’s episode is: Invincible Friendship.
There are two parts to this episode: the funny parts and the tender parts. And the two are intertwined throughout the whole thing. It all starts when Tohru gets permission to tell Uotani and Hanajima that she is living with the Sohmas now. The two friends decide they better check things out for themselves. This spells mayham for the Sohmas, trying not to be changed, and when they do to not get caught changing. It isn’t surprising that Yuki and Kyo are particularly disgusted with each other.
We also learn about how close the friendship is between Tohru, Uotani, and Hanajima. Tohru was their first friend. In Uotani’s case, Tohru and her mother gave her the strength to leave her gang. They swore on the grave of Tohru’s mother to take care of her, but Tohru doesn’t want to trouble them.
Well, in the end, the two approve of Tohru’s living arrangement. We also learn that Shigure is a novelist, and apparently some of what he writes is pretty steamy^^; I guess he’s a dog in the fullest sense of the word.
